Scott Mountain Tree Torching
Lowman district personal will be burning (tree torching) near Scott Mountain on Wednesday. One of the objectives of the project is to reduce competing vegetation and fuel hazard around existing whitebark pine. Torching the trees in the winter/spring over snow has been effective in reducing the fuel hazard to adjacent whitebark pine. There are 67 acres remaining to be treated and is a continuation of the Scott Mountain Tree Torching RX that was implemented last week. The burn is located roughly .5 to 5 miles east of Scott Mountain Lookout (T 10N, R 6E sec 19,21,22,27) .
